Family Service

St. John the Baptist Catholic School is an expression of the Church’s educational mission to proclaim the gospel, promote community and give service.  The Family Service Program gives life to this philosophical statement - cultivating a rich community life through generous service to the school.  These service jobs also provide the necessary framework for the creation and implementation of the school’s various activities and fundraisers. 

Parents are asked to share their time, gifts, and talents by selecting a job(s) from among the wide variety of service job(s) offered.  Each family is required to work 40 hours during the school year.  Each service job is categorized as an A, B. or C job depending upon the number of hours required to complete it.  

  • Category A = 40 hours
  • Category B = 20 hours
  • Category C = 10 hours

Therefore, a family may select any one of the following combinations of jobs to fulfill their family service obligation:

  • One A Category
  • Two B Categories
  • Four C Categories
  • One B and Two C Categories
  • Donate $800 in lieu of family service

If for any reason a family decides that they are unable to complete the 40 hour family service obligation, they may donate $800 in lieu of family service at registration time.  Also, if a family cannot fulfill the family service obligation they signed up for, they must write a letter to the PTG president, at least two weeks in advance of an event for general jobs and one month in advance for a Chairperson job. If you do not sign up for any service throughout the year there is a $900.00 donation due May 1, 2008. A $50.00 donation will be charged if you revise your service after registration.
